Israeli Navy Arrests Turkish Activists

Today, Thursday, ‘Anadolu’ reported that the Israeli navy arrested 24 Turkish activists following its attacks on the ‘Global Resilience Fleet’ in international waters, which aims to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and break the siege.

The report cited a statement from the Turkish prosecutor general, who opened an investigation into the incident based on the texts of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and relevant Turkish laws, regarding ‘deprivation of liberty,’ ‘kidnapping or detention of means of transportation,’ ‘robbery,’ ‘damage to property,’ and ‘torture.’

In recent hours, there has been a wave of widespread international and Palestinian condemnations following the ‘Global Resilience Fleet’ heading towards the Gaza Strip loaded with relief materials, the detention of several of its ships, and the arrest of activists on board, including Swedish activist Greta Thunberg.

The Palestinian ‘Hamas’ movement condemned the Israeli army’s interception of the ‘Resilience Fleet’ and the arrest of activists within, considering it as ‘piracy and terrorism that will increase the anger of the peoples of the world.’

The ‘Islamic Jihad’ also considered the interception as ‘maritime piracy and a flagrant violation of international covenants,’ holding Israel fully responsible for the safety of the participants.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced yesterday, Wednesday, that the Israeli navy intercepted the fleet and transported its passengers to an Israeli port. Earlier on Wednesday, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that naval forces began a takeover operation of the ‘Global Resilience Fleet,’ which attempts to deliver aid to Gaza after approaching the sector’s shores.

The ‘Global Resilience Fleet’ stated in posts on ‘X’ that Israeli forces intercepted several ships and arrested some activists, confirming that the ships ‘Alma’ and ‘Sirius’ were ‘seized.’
