Both teams for the 2025 Ryder Cup have been confirmed, and uniform designs are nearly complete. As excitement builds for the event at Bethpage Black, New York, scheduled from Friday, September 26th to Sunday, September 28th, anticipation grows.

Reflecting on Rome 2023, where Team Europe secured a decisive victory, discussions about Team USA’s preparation surfaced once more.

Team Europe often gains momentum from the DP World Tour events leading up to the Ryder Cup. This year, the Amgen Irish Open in early September and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth (September 11th–14th), a Rolex Series event, offer prime chances for players to remain competitive.

In contrast, Team USA experiences a different lead-up. The PGA Tour concluded on Sunday, August 24th, with the Tour Championship, and LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau finished his last round the same day, leaving a gap of weeks without competitive play before the Ryder Cup.

Former Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley noted, “In Paris 2018, America was worn out from too much golf. In Rome, they were the opposite — out of practice. Team USA showed signs of life on Saturday afternoon, but it was too late. Europe had already pulled ahead.”

Sir Nick Faldo, another former captain, shared McGinley’s concerns, suggesting that a sparse schedule isn’t ideal preparation. So, what defines the perfect build-up for a Ryder Cup team?

The answer lies in balance — staying sharp while preserving energy. Excessive golf can exhaust players, and too little can make them rusty. Both conditions threaten the fine rhythm needed for one of the sport’s most mentally taxing weeks.

While captains provide advice, players ultimately know how they best prepare. Some excel with consistent competitive play, while others benefit from brief breaks. Regardless, there’s no room to ease into the Ryder Cup — players need to be ready from the first tee shot.

Whichever team triumphs in 2025 will retrospectively be seen as having had the perfect preparation. This highlights the Ryder Cup’s narrow margins and significant consequences. The influence of the home crowd is crucial.

At Bethpage, New York’s enthusiastic and vocal crowds could be a deciding factor. So, who stands as the favorite?

Currently, Khaleej Times suggests Team USA could have the edge, but only if their preparation is adequate. With such a close contest, momentum can shift rapidly, and everything might change before the competition begins.
