Abdullah spent 12 valuable years ensnared in drug addiction, resulting in isolation and abandonment. Society turned its back on him, with people labeling him as a ‘drug addict’.
In the ‘Recovered’ podcast by Dubai Police, hosted by Mahra Al Marzouqi, Abdullah narrated his journey to reclaiming his life. He shed light on the toughest hurdles he faced and how he found hope and determination after a prolonged period of darkness.
Abdullah remembered the beginning: a seemingly harmless act of pretending to use drugs during a theatrical performance in front of a friend. That friend, without hesitation, offered him pills. Consumed by curiosity, Abdullah accepted, leading to a loss of control over his life.

Dubai Police highlighted Abdullah’s story to raise awareness among youth and parents regarding the perils of drug abuse.
During his addiction, Abdullah was isolated. In a sparse house devoid of essentials, he watched life pass by. He was disconnected from the world around him, resigned to a life of dread, fear, and pain.
Memories of family and friends flooded back, but he was quickly reminded of his harsh reality, trapped by the constant presence of drugs. This presence robbed him of health, strength, and family, plunging him into unimaginable darkness.
Abdullah recounted, “It was a beginning I never foresaw… Trapped in fear and loss, my body weakened, my health declined, and I hallucinated, seeing faces and hearing voices that weren’t there.
“Frightening hallucinations plagued me. Every sound or knock sent waves of fear, dreading police arrest. I was isolated, abandoned, and shunned, labeled a ‘drug addict’. Eventually, loneliness and despair consumed me.”
In brief moments of clarity, Abdullah realized the need to quit. With his life teetering between prison and death, he sought help.
Abdullah shared, “My mind searched for a lifeline. I found the Erada Center for Treatment and Rehabilitation. Meeting their specialists marked the start of my recovery journey.”
Today, Abdullah celebrates three years of recovery, embodying renewed hope and spirit. He stands as a testament to the strength of human will, overcoming a 12-year addiction battle.
