The ministry indicated that 46 Algerian universities were ranked compared to 17 universities in 2025 and 14 universities in 2024. With this achievement, Algeria tops the list of Maghreb and Arab countries in terms of the number of ranked universities.
The ministry added: “This progress reflects the efforts made and the increased visibility of scientific research at both the regional and international levels.”
The ranking is based on several factors including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, research citations, the percentage of international faculty members, the percentage of international students, and other indicators that reflect the competitiveness and quality of the universities.
