Armenia, US, and Azerbaijan Peace Talks

The Armenian Cabinet of Ministers stated in a release: “In Washington, Prime Minister Pashinyan will hold a bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between Armenia and the United States, in addition to a trilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.” The statement added that the meeting “aims to enhance peace, prosperity, and economic cooperation in the region.” The newspaper quoted U.S. officials as saying that this meeting “is the latest example of the President’s efforts to resolve international conflicts and take credit for it.” Last month, Aliyev, in his speech at the Third Global Media Forum 2025, hosted by the city of Shusha in Azerbaijan, stated that “it is possible to sign a peace treaty (with Armenia) once two issues are resolved: the amendment of Armenia’s constitution and the resolution of the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh region)… I believe we are very close to signing a peace treaty.” In 2022, Yerevan and Baku, mediated by Russia, the United States, and the European Union, began discussions on a future peace treaty. At the end of May 2023, Pashinyan announced Yerevan’s readiness to “recognize Azerbaijan’s sovereignty within Soviet-era borders, including Nagorno-Karabakh.” In June, Russian Ambassador to Yerevan Sergey Kopirkin stated that Moscow proposes organizing the signing of the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace agreement on the Russian platform.
