On Wednesday night, Bollywood’s next-generation storyteller was introduced as Shah Rukh Khan presented his son Aryan Khan to the world — not as an actor, but as a filmmaker. The event was the grand preview of Aryan’s debut Netflix series, The Ba**ds of Bollywood, at Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai.

The gathering, attended by the industry’s biggest stars, had Shah Rukh charmingly hosting the night. Yet, the highlight was his heartfelt introduction of Aryan as a director.

Shah Rukh expressed his sincere emotions about witnessing his son’s entry into the cinematic world.

“I’m profoundly grateful to Mumbai and this country, which has allowed me to entertain for 30 years. Today is special, as my son is taking his first step on the same ground. He’s a diligent young man, as all fathers think of their sons. Hard work is the one aspect you can control, so when he stands before you, please applaud him and send a small prayer.”

The superstar concluded with a wish that Aryan receives a fraction of the love and support he has enjoyed.

Aryan Khan steps into the spotlight

For Aryan, this was his debut media interaction. Nervous yet witty, the 27-year-old director mentioned rehearsing his speech with a teleprompter and printed notes — “in case of a power outage.”

He joked: “If I make mistakes, my dad is here. And if I still mess up, please forgive me, this is my first time.”

His candidness, similar to SRK’s, amused the crowd, but he soon focused on his project:

“The show aims to entertain people globally. After four years of hard work, endless discussions, and countless takes, it’s finally ready.”

The Ba***ds of Bollywood offers a cheeky, self-aware take on the chaos of India’s film industry. The preview featured cameo appearances by Salman Khan, Karan Johar, and Ranveer Singh, contributing to the show’s playful critique of Bollywood’s extravagance.

Boldly, Aryan included references to his past controversies — even his jail time — weaving real-life events into the show’s satirical narrative.

Featuring a diverse cast including Lakshya, Bobby Deol, Raghav Juyal, Sahher Bambba, Manoj Pahwa, Gautami Kapoor, Mona Singh, and Rajat Bedi, the series is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment. Aryan Khan, Bilal Siddiqi, and Manav Chauhan collaborated as co-creators, directors, and writers.

The Ba***ds of Bollywood debuts globally on Netflix on September 18, marking Aryan Khan’s official entry as a filmmaker in a major entertainment industry.
