The spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy and Director of Government Communication in Syria, Ahmed Suleiman, explained that the pumping of Azerbaijani gas to Syria has filled the pipelines and increased the pressure within the network. The quantities have reached two million cubic meters daily in the preliminary phase, confirming the infrastructure’s readiness to efficiently receive the gas.
The gas is scheduled to reach the Jandar, Tishreen, and Nasiriyah stations in the central region, with generation units gradually entering service. This is part of an operational plan aiming to produce between 700 and 800 megawatts daily, according to the Syrian news agency “SANA.”
Suleiman noted that reliance on gas as a primary energy source will directly improve the electricity situation in the country, positively impacting the lives of citizens and supporting various economic sectors.
It is noteworthy that Syria and Azerbaijan signed a memorandum of understanding on July 12th to cooperate in the energy field. The gas pumping officially began on August 2nd through Turkey, with Qatari funding, with a total quantity estimated at about 3.4 million cubic meters daily to supply the power stations.
