On Emirati Women’s Day, we not only celebrate the accomplishments of Emirati women but also recognize the platforms and voices that have shared their stories globally. Over the last 50 years, the UAE has seen a significant shift in the role and visibility of women, a change made possible by media’s ability to document, amplify, and inspire.

Since the Union’s inception, Emirati women have been integral to the national narrative, breaking educational barriers, excelling in public service, leading businesses, and shaping cultural identity. The media has chronicled these milestones, capturing the evolution from the first female graduates and diplomats to today’s astronauts, ministers, entrepreneurs, and cultural icons. This coverage has actively reshaped perceptions, expanded minds, and fostered a collective narrative of empowerment.

The media’s role extends beyond reporting; it’s about shaping possibilities. The stories we highlight and the figures we celebrate influence public imagination. When an Emirati girl sees a figure like her leading a ministry, running a newsroom, or making scientific breakthroughs, it expands her vision of what’s possible.

A Leader Who Shaped My Path

My personal journey has been greatly influenced by working with Her Excellency Mona Al Marri, a trailblazer in media whose vision, strategic insight, and commitment to excellence have inspired every step of my career.

Under her leadership, I realized that media is not just a profession but a responsibility. Her strategic vision and respect for storytelling have exemplified purposeful leadership.

Working on significant initiatives like the Arab Media Summit under her guidance has been transformative, expanding my technical skills and broadening my industry understanding. Her mentorship taught me to approach challenges creatively, value depth over speed, and prioritize the audience and national values in storytelling.

Her example has shown me that leadership in media is about empowering people and crafting impactful narratives. She invests in others, nurtures potential, and creates growth opportunities, enriching both my professional and personal life.

The Next 50: Empowerment as a Shared Responsibility

Looking to the next 50 years, empowerment becomes a collective responsibility. Media must embrace new technologies, engage diverse audiences, and amplify voices across society. Institutions, communities, and individuals must see themselves as co-authors of this national narrative. Empowerment should be a daily practice of inclusion, opportunity, and respect.

The UAE’s approach ensures women’s empowerment is integral to national development, not a separate track. Emirati Women’s Day highlights this shared progress, reminding us that one group’s achievements benefit all.

In a global media landscape where stories travel fast but risk distortion, owning our narrative is crucial. We must tell authentic stories with courage and ensure they reach broad audiences. While platforms evolve from newspapers to digital realms, the mission remains: to inspire, educate, and connect.

Carrying the Flame Forward

In the coming decades, I believe UAE’s media will continue to champion women’s journeys, celebrate their successes, and focus on the work ahead. The next chapter demands collaboration, innovation, and intentionality in storytelling.

Reflecting on my path, I’m grateful for leaders like H.E. Mona Al Marri, whose example inspires my dedication to telling impactful stories. Her leadership has shaped my career and instilled values, vision, and courage to contribute meaningfully to our national narrative.

This Emirati Women’s Day, I am reminded of a lesson H.E. Mona often demonstrates: true leadership is measured not by titles but by the horizons we open for others. I hope to continue her legacy of vision, generosity, and dedication, helping the next generation of Emirati women to dream bigger and realize those dreams.
