Following a heartbreaking loss to Lorenzo Musetti at the ATP Finals, Alex de Minaur expressed his frustration, stating he can’t continue losing in such a manner. The Australian player had come back from a set down to lead 5-3 in the deciding set, only for Musetti to win four consecutive games, sealing a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 victory in an intense round-robin match in Turin.
“It’s probably for the best that I don’t share my feelings right now, as they’re quite dark,” De Minaur commented.
“This year feels like a series of matches that should have gone my way but didn’t,” he added.
In September’s US Open, De Minaur won the first set against Felix Auger-Aliassime but lost in the quarterfinals. Similarly, at Wimbledon, he took the initial set against Novak Djokovic before succumbing in the fourth round.
“If I don’t address this, it will consume me,” he admitted.
“I need to resolve it soon. I don’t know how many more losses like this I can take.”
After losing to world number one Carlos Alcaraz in his first match in the Jimmy Connors Group, De Minaur faces Taylor Fritz on Thursday. A defeat would end his journey in Turin.
When asked how he plans to avoid another painful defeat, De Minaur replied, “I need to talk with my team to resolve these recurring issues. If I want to advance in my career, I simply can’t afford to lose these matches.”
