The Dubai Misdemeanour Court has sentenced five men for defrauding people through an online investment scam. They received jail terms, fines, and will be deported.
Court documents revealed that the defendants attracted victims online, convincing them to invest in non-existent projects. Prosecutors highlighted that the group enticed individuals with promises of high returns, leading them to transfer money under false pretenses of profitable investments.
Upon examining the evidence, the court sentenced each of the five men to a one-month jail term and ordered their deportation from the UAE after serving their sentences.

The fines varied based on the amounts fraudulently obtained. The first and third defendants were fined Dh10,145 each, the second Dh6,644, while the fourth and fifth were fined Dh500 and Dh300, respectively. A sixth man involved in the case was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
This ruling underscores the UAE courts’ strict stance on tackling cyber fraud and investment scams. Legal analysts point out that even smaller cases face strict penalties, including jail time and deportation, as a deterrent against digital fraud.
Authorities continue to advise residents to be wary of online offers promising quick and guaranteed returns. They remind the public to verify the legitimacy of financial schemes before transferring money and emphasize that if an investment seems too good to be true, it likely is.
