The pink diamond, categorized as Fancy Intense, weighs 21 carats and is of the highest purity, ranking among the world’s rarest with a global rarity of a mere 0.01 per cent, as per Dubai Media Office. The gang reportedly concocted their plan upon learning of the diamond’s arrival in Dubai from Europe.

Using false identities, the suspects contacted the trader, posing as agents for a “wealthy buyer”. They enhanced their credibility by renting luxury cars, arranging meetings at five-star hotels, and even bringing along a “gem expert”.

Their ruse successfully persuaded the trader to take the diamond out of secure storage and bring it to a private villa for viewing.

Upon receiving the theft report, Dubai Police initiated a rapid response. The General Department of Criminal Investigation and Criminology utilized advanced surveillance and tracking technologies to swiftly identify the culprits. The suspects initially stayed together but fled to different locations post-crime. Authorities simultaneously raided their separate hideouts.

The stolen diamond was found hidden inside a small refrigerator, where the gang had planned to temporarily store it before smuggling it to an undisclosed Asian country.

The merchant, operating in Dubai since 2005, lauded the authorities’ swift and professional action as “astonishing,” noting their speed and professionalism assured him the case would be swiftly resolved.

After dialing 999, he recounted that multiple patrols arrived within minutes, commenced the investigation, and provided constant reassurance. “To my surprise, the very next morning, they called to say the suspects had been arrested and the diamond recovered,” he said.
