According to the statement from the Egyptian presidency, President El-Sisi emphasized during the call Egypt’s firm rejection of any plans to displace the Palestinian people from their land. He affirmed the ongoing intensive efforts to cease fire in the Gaza Strip, deliver humanitarian aid, and work towards the release of hostages and prisoners.
For his part, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his gratitude for Egypt’s steadfast positions and historical support for the Palestinian cause. Abbas warned of the dangers of the Israeli decision to reoccupy the Gaza Strip and displace its residents, describing it as a “new crime” that requires urgent action.
This comes in the wake of the Israeli Security Cabinet’s approval of a plan to take control of Gaza City, just hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his intention to impose military control over the entire Strip, despite the growing wave of domestic and international criticism of the ongoing war on Palestinian territories for nearly two years.
