Egypt Urges Iranian Cooperation with IAEA

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that Abdel Aaty “emphasized the importance of adhering to diplomatic channels and preparing to resume (Iranian) cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.” He stressed the need to restore trust and create a supportive environment for achieving security and stability in the region.

The statement added that “the communications are part of Egyptian efforts aimed at stabilizing calm, reducing escalation and signs of tension, promoting peaceful solutions, and resuming negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program, advancing the political and peaceful track.”

The Iranian parliament had voted by majority on a law obligating the government to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, and Iranian President Masoud Bazeshkian issued a decision to implement it officially one day after the ceasefire announcement.

Last July, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that his country remains committed to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, but clarified that cooperation with the International Agency would be managed through the Iranian Supreme National Security Council for reasons related to safety and security.
