Egypt’s Efforts to Halt Gaza Conflict and Deliver Aid

In television statements, Abdel Aaty said that “Egypt conducts daily communications with America and Qatar to immediately halt the fire in Gaza, and is pressing with all strength to succeed in the ceasefire negotiations,” pointing out that “Egyptian-American relations are strong, solid, and strategic.” He added that “70% of the aid that previously entered Gaza was Egyptian,” and that “Israel is using food as a weapon,” considering what is happening in Gaza as “beyond imagination.” The Egyptian Foreign Minister pointed to “a fundamental change in global public opinion against Israel’s violations.” Earlier yesterday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said that “it prevents the establishment of a Palestinian state,” noting that “Egypt’s efforts have focused over the past months on delivering aid to the sector that is witnessing tragic conditions.” This was during a speech he delivered about the developments in the region, according to the official page of the Egyptian presidency on the “X” site. Sisi’s speech coincides with the entry of relief and humanitarian aid trucks into the Kerem Shalom crossing in preparation for delivery to the Gaza Strip. The Egyptian president pointed to a massive number of Egyptian trucks that are ready to enter the Gaza Strip, and that there is nothing preventing their entry into the sector, but stressed the need for the Rafah crossing to be opened from the Palestinian side. Residents suffer from unprecedented levels of hunger, with UN organizations warning of rampant famine and rising deaths due to malnutrition, especially among children, the sick, and the disabled. Since October 7, 2023, until this July, the war on Gaza has resulted in the death of more than 59,000 Palestinians, in addition to about 143,000 injured, according to health ministry data in the sector.
