Emma Raducanu delivered an impressive display at the US Open on Wednesday, dominating Indonesian qualifier Janice Tjen 6-2, 6-1 to secure her place in the third round.

The 22-year-old, who clinched her first tournament win in her initial match on Sunday since her 2021 victory, faced a formidable opponent in Tjen, who had just achieved a remarkable upset against 24th seed Veronika Kudermetova.

However, Raducanu’s precise serves and relentless pace proved overwhelming, as she clinched the match in just an hour, marking her fastest Grand Slam win.

“I’m really pleased with my performance today. Janice is a very dangerous opponent, and I knew any weak shot would be punished,” Raducanu stated.

“Janice is playing highly competitive tennis and has already beaten a top seed in the first round.

“I’m confident she will gain a lot of confidence from this. I’m looking forward to facing her again.”

Raducanu was focused from the start, securing a break in her initial return game and overcoming three break points to establish a 3-0 lead.

The UK’s top player never allowed Tjen to settle, closing the first set with strong serves and powerful groundstrokes.

Maintaining her momentum, she broke Tjen twice in the second set, establishing a commanding lead before serving out the match, completing a remarkable performance that included 16 winners, eight aces, and no double faults.

Raducanu will next face either Czech teenager Tereza Valentova or 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
