The “Sputnik” correspondent in the UAE reported that representatives from 74 countries attended the conference, discussing issues of social integration and empowering people with intellectual disabilities. The focus was on the importance of transitioning from institutional care to independent living within the community.

Nabulsi explained that “the conference, which is held every four years in a different country, chose Sharjah for this session, making it the first Arab city to host the event. This reflects the significant progress the UAE has made in integrating and empowering people of determination, particularly in educational, professional, and social fields.”

Nabulsi pointed out that “the conference saw extensive participation from around the world, with representatives from 74 countries and hosting more than 150 discussion sessions and workshops. Among them were 59 sessions led by self-advocates with disabilities themselves, reflecting the spirit of empowerment and active participation.”

Nabulsi also highlighted the notable attendance that contributed to enriching discussions and exchanging experiences, affirming that “the conference is not limited to theoretical proposals but aims to formulate practical, implementable policies that ensure justice and full integration of people with intellectual disabilities into their communities.”
