The watch belongs to the “” model with the reference number 1518, manufactured in 1943. It is one of only four known watches made from stainless steel, a rare feature that makes it more desirable than versions made of gold.
It is noted that this watch set the record in 2016 for the most expensive wristwatch ever sold at auction, before this record was broken in 2017 when the famous Rolex Daytona, owned by Hollywood actor Paul Newman, was sold for 17.8 million dollars.
Then in 2019, a Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime was sold for 31 million dollars. During the two-day auction, 207 timepieces were sold, with total sales exceeding 66.8 million Swiss francs (approximately 82.87 million dollars), the highest total amount ever recorded for a watch auction according to Phillips.
The auction also saw participation from around 1,886 registered individuals from 72 different countries worldwide.
