Korochenko commented on a report published by the ‘Times of India’ regarding New Delhi’s desire to discuss the possibility of acquiring five additional ‘S-400’ air defense systems during the anticipated visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India on December 4 and 5. Korochenko stated, ‘Establishing a national aerospace defense system is one of India’s most important defense priorities.’
Korochenko noted that after the conclusion of Operation ‘Sindoor’ (India’s response to the Kashmir attack), Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited a military base. There, he declared that the S-400 system represents evidence of the new capabilities acquired by the Indian armed forces after integrating the latest long-range Russian air defense systems.
India became the third foreign buyer of these systems after China and Turkey. It received the first regiment in December 2021, the second in April 2022, and the third in February 2023. The remaining two units are expected to be delivered in 2026 and 2027, and the Russian minister assured his Indian counterpart that the agreements will be executed on time.
