The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ismail Baghaei, stated that “the new American sanctions are a continuous hostility by decision-makers in Washington towards our people,” adding that they “aim to weaken the country and deprive citizens of their basic rights,” according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency. Baghaei considered the “American sanctions a violation of international law and human rights principles,” denouncing the “recent military aggression launched by America and Israel against Iran’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.”
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman affirmed that “the Iranian people, who understand the malicious intentions of the aggressive sanction imposers, whose only goal is to weaken Iran and violate the basic rights of every Iranian, will stand with all their might to preserve their dignity and interests.”
The U.S. government announced yesterday, Wednesday, that it targets “50 individuals and entities, and more than 50 ships suspected of belonging to a commercial fleet owned by a senior official’s son in Tehran.” According to the U.S. administration, “the sanctions target a fleet of oil tankers and container ships belonging to Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, the son of Ali Shamkhani, a close advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader,” noting that the Trump administration is intensifying its efforts as part of the “maximum pressure” campaign on Iran.
On the night of June 13, Israel launched an operation against Iran, accusing it of “conducting a secret military nuclear program,” targeting airstrikes on nuclear facilities, prominent generals, nuclear physicists, and air bases. Then Trump expressed hope that the bombing of the U.S. military base in Qatar “had led to venting Iran’s anger,” and that “the path of peace and harmony in the Middle East is now possible,” suggesting that within 24 hours, the 12-day war would officially end.
