The Iranian embassy stated in a statement that the remarks made by US envoy Tom Barrack from Baabda Palace on Tuesday reflect authoritarianism and arrogance, as is the case with those in charge, according to Mehr on Wednesday.
The statement said that the US envoy’s comments reveal what it described as ‘blind hatred towards honorable fighters in the world.’ Barrack addressed the media before the conference began, saying: ‘Be quiet for a moment… The moment the situation becomes chaotic and ‘animalistic’, we will leave,’ which upset a number of journalists who considered his words to contain unacceptable insults.
The Lebanese Press Editors Syndicate issued a statement strongly condemning what it described as an ‘insult’ to the Lebanese media, considering that the statement made by US envoy Tom Barrack was ‘outside the norms of courtesy and diplomacy.’
The syndicate expressed its regret that someone playing a diplomatic role would describe journalists’ behavior in the presidential palace as ‘animalistic,’ affirming that this language is completely unacceptable and rejected in its entirety.
