Fars reported today, Saturday, that Iran unveiled the upgraded version of the satellite “Kowsar,” designed for precision agriculture and mapping tasks, in the presence of the head of the Iranian Space Organization, and it is set to be placed in orbit soon.
Iran had previously launched the satellites “Kowsar-1” and “Hudhud” into orbit on November 5, 2024, using the Russian “Soyuz” rocket. Now, less than a year later, the second or improved version of “Kowsar” is ready for launch after passing the final manufacturing and testing stages.
This new satellite, along with its accessories, weighs 50 kilograms, and it is scheduled to be placed in an orbit 500 kilometers above Earth. It is set to be launched in the coming months using the “Soyuz” rocket.
This Iranian satellite is produced by the private sector and developed under a cooperation agreement between the “Omid Space” knowledge-based company and the Iranian Space Organization. Hossein Farahani, the executive director of the “Omid Fazaa” knowledge company, said: “We tried to fix some issues with the ‘Kowsar’ satellite in this updated model, and our efforts continue to build subsequent satellites.”
