A Sudanese government source stated, “The marches of the Rapid Support Forces militia targeted Khartoum Airport again at dawn today,” confirming that it will not affect air traffic at Khartoum International Airport. Drones raided in Sudan last Tuesday morning, one day before the scheduled reopening of the airport for domestic flights, for the first time in about 30 months.
Eyewitnesses told a French media outlet that they “heard the sounds of drones in the skies over central and southern Khartoum, in addition to the sounds of explosions near the airport, between four and six in the morning local time.”
The war that broke out between the Rapid Support Forces in April 2023 led to the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of millions, as the city of El Fasher, the battlefield in Darfur, was destroyed due to the shelling. The United Nations estimates that children make up about half of the 260,000 civilians trapped in the city, who have been almost entirely cut off from external aid.
