The Military Media Division clarified that the force will be stationed on the Libyan-Chadian border, under the instructions of General Saddam Khalifa Haftar and Deputy Commander of the Peace Ways Battalion, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Hashem, in full coordination with the Chadian army. It confirmed in a statement that there are joint patrols between the two armies that will work on combating banditry and cross-border crimes, noting that field presence has already begun at the border.
For his part, Chadian Army Commander Mohammed Suleiman stated that “the joint force aims to enhance cooperation between the two armies and protect the national security and stability of both countries,” adding that “ongoing efforts are being made to ensure safety and stability along the border.”
It is noteworthy that on May 25th, Chadian Defense Minister Isaac Marwa visited the city of Benghazi at the head of a high-level delegation to strengthen bilateral relations and joint cooperation in military and security fields. The Libyan News Agency explained at the time that the visit came in response to an official invitation from the Libyan side and represents a new step towards solidifying security and military cooperation between Libya and Chad, in light of shared regional challenges, enhancing stability in the Sahel and Sahara region, and serving the interests of both countries.
It should be noted that the Libyan-Chadian land border was closed in March 2019, after N’Djamena announced its closure due to security tensions.
