Lula da Silva on BRICS and Global Cooperation

Lula da Silva stated, “Imposing measures that exceed regional boundaries threatens our institutions, secondary sanctions limit our freedom to enhance trade between friendly countries, and the ‘divide and conquer’ policy is the new strategy for unilateral action. The BRICS group must demonstrate that cooperation is above all.” Earlier today, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian announced, “Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the BRICS Summit online on September 8 and will have in-depth exchanges of views with leaders of other countries on the current economic situation, multilateral organizations, and the BRICS multilateral cooperation system, as well as other key issues of common interest.” Previously, media reported that Brazil, on the initiative of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will hold an extraordinary BRICS summit on September 8 to discuss the trade policy of American leader Donald Trump. The BRICS group was founded in 2006 by Russia, China, India, and Brazil, and South Africa joined in 2011. Since the beginning of 2024, other countries have joined BRICS.
