Van Vell stated in a post on the ‘X’ platform that ‘The Netherlands announced today the allocation of 35 million euros through a comprehensive aid package for Ukraine to finance medical supplies and equipment, and support other operations to help Ukrainian forces through the winter.’ The minister also noted that the previously announced military aid package worth 250 million euros will be delivered to Ukraine soon.
Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans announced on Monday that his country will allocate 250 million euros for air defense systems and ammunition for F-16 fighters for Ukraine, through the ‘Ukrainian Priority Needs List’ initiative.
In early August, Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that the United States, through the ‘Ukrainian Needs List’ initiative, aims to expedite the delivery of weapons through voluntary contributions from alliance countries. On September 2, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced that alliance countries had already purchased combat and defensive weapons for Ukraine from the United States worth two billion dollars under the same initiative.
In contrast, Russia has repeatedly asserted that Western arms supplies to Ukraine hinder the resolution of the military conflict and turn NATO countries into direct parties in the crisis. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also warned that any shipments containing weapons directed to Ukraine will be considered legitimate targets for Russian forces.
