Dr. Konstantin Belosludtsev, a Doctor of Biological Sciences and Vice President of the University for Innovative Activities, stated that “Research results have shown that the new substance effectively inhibits the growth of various malignant cells, including liver cancer, adenocarcinoma, colorectal cancer, and leukemia. Its effectiveness is evident even at low concentrations, making it particularly promising for drug development.” He confirmed that the compound selectively targets tumor cells.
He noted that the compound consists of a phenothiazine part and a triphenylphosphonium group. This combination enables the compound to target the “weak spot” of tumor cells, which is the mitochondria, the cell’s power stations, leading to their disruption.
