On Wednesday, Pope Leo XVI voiced his support for the people of Gaza, highlighting that civilians have been “once again” displaced from their homes and are enduring “unacceptable conditions”.
“I stand in deep solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza, who are living in fear and enduring unacceptable conditions, having been forcibly displaced once more,” stated the 70-year-old pope following his general audience.
In the wake of extensive Israeli bombardment aimed at dismantling Hamas, hundreds of thousands of Gaza City residents are attempting to leave the northern area.
“I call once more for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, a diplomatic solution through negotiation, and full adherence to international humanitarian law,” the pope urged.
“I invite all to join me in a heartfelt prayer for peace and justice to soon dawn,” he added.
