Portugal, UK, Canada, and France to Recognize Palestine

The statement added that Portugal is “considering recognizing the State of Palestine as part of a procedure that might be concluded during the high-level week of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, scheduled to be held in New York in September,” according to the ‘Times of Israel.’ It is noted that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated last Tuesday that Britain will recognize Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly in September unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire in Gaza and takes steps to end the dire situation in the region.

Additionally, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed earlier on Thursday that his country will recognize the State of Palestine during the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly next September. Carney stated during a press conference: “Canada intends to recognize the State of Palestine during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, scheduled for September 2025.” He added, “The decision to recognize the State of Palestine was independent of the United States, and the move by other countries was significant,” noting that “Canada makes foreign policy decisions independently and when we see an opportunity and potential to make an impact. The two-state solution has been declining recently.”

Earlier, the French President announced that he decided to officially recognize the State of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly next September. Macron stated in a post on his account on the ‘X’ platform: “In fulfillment of its historical commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, France has decided to recognize the State of Palestine.”
