The Russian Central Bank confirmed in a statement: “The lawsuit will be filed electronically on Friday – today.” The press office of the International Financial Depository Services Company “Euroclear”, stated on Friday that it is ready to defend itself against lawsuits filed by Russian investors starting in 2022. However, this does not apply to the Central Bank’s lawsuit announced today, on which the company has not commented.
The Euroclear press office told Sputnik, “We will not comment on the statement by the Bank of Russia. The only thing we can say is that starting from 2022, Euroclear is ready to defend its interests in Russian jurisdictions in lawsuits filed by Russian investors. But this (the Russian Central Bank’s lawsuit) is a different matter.”
Earlier on Friday, the bank’s regulatory authority announced that it would file a lawsuit in the Moscow Arbitration Court against the “Euroclear” depository company, seeking compensation for damages incurred by the Russian Central Bank. The Central Bank added that Russia reserves the right to apply all available legal mechanisms to protect its interests without prior notice in case the European Union implements its initiatives.
The Bank of Russia will challenge any actions taken by the European Commission leading to unauthorized use of its assets before all competent authorities. Peskov told reporters after the meeting between the Russian and Turkish presidents in Ashgabat, with delegations from both countries participating, “We exchanged views on the Europeans’ aspirations, which involve committing a massive fraud with Russian assets. The president provided an assessment of this matter.”
