The UAE expresses its solidarity with Vietnam and extends condolences to the victims of Typhoon Yagi

The devastating floods and landslides triggered by Typhoon Yagi have resulted in numerous casualties and inflicted severe damage in the region. In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, its friendly population, and the families of the victims, wishing a swift recovery for all those affected.
Recent reports indicate that 59 individuals have lost their lives in Northern Vietnam due to the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi, as stated by state media yesterday. The VNExpress website reported that as of September 9th, the death toll from the cyclone had risen to 59, with 44 fatalities linked to landslides and flash floods, in addition to earlier reports of 21 deaths.

Authorities have confirmed that 247 people sustained injuries during this natural disaster. Typhoon Yagi, the most powerful storm to hit Northern Vietnam in the last 30 years, has caused the collapse of bridges, uprooted rooftops, and damaged factories after making landfall last Saturday, accompanied by winds exceeding 149 kilometers per hour.
Operations at factories in Northern Vietnam, a central hub for international tech companies like Samsung and Foxconn, have been disrupted by widespread power outages. The region has also experienced severe flooding, with many city streets submerged.

“The situation due to the flooding is very precarious; we have ordered the release of water from reservoirs,” stated Nguyen Huan Hap, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The typhoon has also claimed at least 24 lives in southern China and the Philippines before striking Vietnam. Currently, around 1.5 million people in Vietnam remain without electricity, while a bridge over the Red River has collapsed due to a rapid increase in water levels in the northern province of Phu Tho.
The Phung Chau bridge, located about an hour northwest of Hanoi, collapsed yesterday morning around 10 AM local time. Half of the bridge fell away, and flash floods swept away vehicles. Deputy Prime Minister Hu Duc Fu mentioned that around 10 vehicles, including cars, trucks, and two motorcycles, were determined to be missing along with 13 individuals at the time of the bridge collapse. However, the overall death toll and number of missing persons remain uncertain, as surveillance footage does not reveal how many individuals were in each vehicle.
Authorities noted that the primary factors contributing to the bridge’s collapse were high floodwaters and intense rainfall, with winds reaching up to 149 kilometers per hour and rainfall exceeding 17 centimeters over the weekend.
