Trump stated in a post on the Truth Social platform that Washington, D.C. is experiencing one of the highest crime rates in the world. He argued that its murder rate exceeds those of cities known for violence, such as Mexico City, Bogota, Islamabad, and Addis Ababa, and is nearly ten times the rate in Fallujah, Iraq. Trump noted that the rate of violent crimes in Washington nearly doubled over the past decade, accusing city officials of “corruption” and manipulating official statistics, asserting that the real numbers are much worse.
The American president criticized Washington’s local government, claiming it has largely stopped investigating crimes and arresting offenders, causing residents to refrain from reporting to the police out of fear of retaliation, becoming “prisoners in their own city,” as he put it. He pointed out that the actual crime rates might be five to ten times higher than reported, indicating the city is under siege by thugs and murderers.
Earlier, the American president pledged to imprison criminals, despite the Washington mayor’s assertion that there is no current rise in crime rates. Unlike other states where the governor decides to activate the National Guard, the president has direct authority over the National Guard in Washington, D.C.
According to the “Community Partnership” organization, which works to reduce homelessness in Washington, there are 3,782 homeless individuals on any given night in the city, which has a population of about 700,000. Most of these individuals live in emergency shelters or transitional housing, rather than on the streets.
