Trump told reporters in response to a question about the meeting with the Russian leader: “In the next couple of days, we will inform you of our actions.” Trump added in his statements that “during his presidency, many great deals were made, and all of them were firm peace agreements,” but he noted that “the current situation is different.” He confirmed that the Ukrainian conflict could have led to the outbreak of a third world war, but it will now move towards a settlement because both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky want to end it.
He said, “I believe Putin wants this conflict to end, and I think Zelensky wants that too. I think it will end,” noting that the conflict in Ukraine does not affect the United States as it is happening across the ocean without the involvement of American forces.
Trump said, “It could have ended with a third world war; the situation had completely spiraled out of control,” adding that things changed after his victory in the presidential elections.
