The Turkish newspaper “Zaman” reported on Tuesday evening that the Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urban Planning, and Climate Change has begun a comprehensive study across Turkey to establish shelters in 81 provinces. It explained that the study, which was presented during Turkish Cabinet meetings led by the president, highlighted that the country lacks an infrastructure for shelters and that the current shelters do not meet the requirements. The study pointed out that there are models to emulate, as in Israel, noting that during the Turkish Cabinet meeting, it was decided to assign the state-owned company “TOKI” to establish shelters in 81 provinces. The newspaper noted that construction has already begun in some priority provinces, primarily in the capital, Ankara. It is worth mentioning that the shelter regulations activated in 1987 assume the establishment of shelters in buildings with a specified capacity, but this measure is being neglected.
