A new report from the specialized energy platform stated that Emirates Global Aluminium and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation announced yesterday, Thursday, the delivery of the first shipment of low-carbon aluminium produced in the UAE using electricity generated by the Barakah nuclear power plants.
The new report indicated that Egypt received the first shipment of nuclear-powered aluminium, marketed by Emirates Global Aluminium under the name “Minimal.” The CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium, Abdul Nasser Bin Kalban, pointed out the rapidly increasing demand for low-carbon aluminium, which is expected to triple by 2040.
The Barakah nuclear power plants produce 40 terawatt-hours of clean electricity annually, equivalent to about 25% of the electricity, and meets the total annual energy demand of Switzerland.
Emirates Global Aluminium is the first global company to produce aluminium using solar energy, having produced 80,000 tons of “Celestial” aluminium in 2024. The company also produces recycled aluminium, marketed under the name “Revival,” at its factories in the United States and Germany.
The first shipment of nuclear-powered aluminium from Emirates Global Aluminium contributes to enhancing the UAE’s position as a reliable supplier of low-carbon industrial materials to global markets.
