The Al Nasr Club sports hall was filled with excitement on Tuesday morning as children of determination gathered for the 5th People of Determination Fitness Championship. Parents beamed with pride, cheering for their children at one of the UAE’s most inclusive and heartfelt community events.

Before the first whistle, parents waved, called out to their children, and captured videos. Many became emotional watching their kids stretch, warm up, and prepare for the competitions.

Over 100 students from government centers and associations participated, engaging in activities like running obstacles, jumping challenges, leg-strength exercises, and core workouts such as sit-ups and upper-body lifts. Coaches had dedicated weeks to training the students, preparing them both physically and mentally.

Coach Ahmed Salah expressed pride in the children’s performance. “We practiced these exercises frequently, and today, they remembered every instruction,” he said. “Their balance, focus, and determination were outstanding. The best part was their joy; they enjoyed every moment.”

Each competition drew cheers and applause from the audience. Children of various abilities ran, jumped, balanced, and stretched, giving their all. Some moved cautiously, others quickly, but every child relished the experience.

Seven-year-old Fatima confidently completed the obstacle course, declaring her love for the jumping challenges. “When I run and jump, I feel very strong,” she said. “My mother is here today, and she clapped so loudly for me.”

Participant Saeed eagerly anticipated the event. “I practiced every day to finish first,” he said. “When everyone clapped for me, I felt like a champion.”

For 14-year-old Rania, the highlight was making new friends. “We all cheered for each other. I want to come again next year,” she said.

The championship also underscored the UAE’s commitment to providing more opportunities for people of determination in sports, education, and community activities.

Speaking with Khaleej Times, Hessa Tahlak, assistant undersecretary for the development sector at the Ministry of Family, said the event reflects the nation’s inclusive vision.

“This championship shows our progress in fostering an inclusive society where everyone is supported to thrive,” she said. “Sports enhance confidence, physical health, and emotional wellbeing, helping participants discover their talents. We aim to create pathways for people of determination to compete locally and internationally.”

She added that the ministry’s programs are informed by continuous research, global best practices, and engagement with families and experts. “Families are our closest partners. Their insights help us design programs that truly impact their children’s lives.”

As the event concluded, children left with medals, parents with full hearts, and coaches with pride.
