Western media reported today, Thursday, that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has decided to dismiss his country’s ambassador to Washington, Peter Mandelson, following the revelation of new information about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sexual crimes.
A Western newspaper stated that Keir Starmer had asked Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper to withdraw Peter Mandelson from his position as Britain’s ambassador to the United States after recent revelations about emails he wrote to Epstein. The emails demonstrated the strength of the relationship between Peter Mandelson and Jeffrey Epstein, prompting Starmer to urgently dismiss Mandelson.
Yesterday, Wednesday, members of parliament demanded the dismissal of Lord Mandelson due to his connections with Epstein, who was previously convicted in 2019 of moral charges and child exploitation and trafficking between 2002 and 2005.
In 2019, US prosecutors charged Epstein with sexual exploitation, a crime punishable by up to 40 years in prison, and conspiracy to engage in this trafficking, which carries a sentence of up to five years in prison.
According to prosecutors, between 2002 and 2005, Epstein had sexual relations with dozens of underage girls he hosted in his homes in New York and Florida. In early July 2019, the Manhattan court in New York City decided after an initial hearing for Epstein that he should remain in custody and not be released on bail. In late July of the same year, it was reported that Epstein was found “partially unconscious” in his cell, and he later died, with the investigation revealing that he committed suicide.
