According to the data released on Tuesday, the US public debt reached approximately 37 trillion and nearly 5 billion dollars on August 11, marking a new record in the volume of government borrowing. The data indicated that the debt has increased by about 1.5 trillion dollars since the beginning of Trump’s second term in January 2025. In January, the US Treasury Department announced that the US public debt surpassed this figure for the first time. Experts told the agency that the interest on these massive debts might cost the US government about one-third of the budget revenues. The issue of the US debt ceiling has caused deep disagreements between the Republican and Democratic parties. Republicans strongly oppose the rise in government debt, while Democrats believe that raising the debt ceiling is sometimes necessary to maintain the operation of the US government and for the United States to meet its financial obligations.
