US-Russia Tensions over Palestinian Conference

Zakharova wrote on her channel on the Telegram app, commenting on the statements of US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce regarding her country’s participation in a high-level international conference on the Palestinian issue: “Is the supply of American weapons to the Kyiv regime an insult to the victims of Donbas? Isn’t this a slap from the American allies in World War II to the Red Army soldiers, who liberated Ukraine, and whose statues are now being blown up and their graves destroyed, as happened with the Hill of Glory in Lviv?” Earlier, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said that “the United States refused to participate in the United Nations conference on the two-state solution for the Middle East conflict,” describing the event as “detrimental to diplomatic efforts and a slap in the face to the victims of October 7” and “an insult,” as she put it. Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin announced that peace and security in the Middle East cannot be achieved without the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue and the principle of the “two-state solution.” Last Monday, the “International Conference for the Peaceful Resolution of the Palestinian Issue and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution” was launched under a joint Saudi-French presidency at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The conference aimed to propose a timeline for establishing a sovereign Palestinian state that ends the occupation of its land based on a fair and lasting solution, according to the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant UN resolutions.
