Hegist wrote in a post on his account on the ‘X’ platform: ‘Under the direction of President (Donald) Trump, two deadly strikes were carried out yesterday (Sunday) on boats operated by organizations classified as terrorist. According to our intelligence, the boats were linked to illegal drug trafficking and were carrying drugs, passing through a known drug trafficking route in the eastern Pacific Ocean.’
The Caribbean region is witnessing an escalation of tensions, where the United States has repeatedly used military force in September and October of last year to destroy boats off the coast of Venezuela, alleging their use for drug smuggling. Caracas considered these actions as provocations and violations of international maritime law.
Earlier, international security deemed the American strikes targeting boats off its coasts as ‘illegal acts’ and called on the council to issue a statement affirming respect for its sovereignty, political independence, and territorial integrity.
