35th Anniversary of Kuwait Invasion

Gargash emphasized on the “X” platform that “the invasion and brutal occupation of sister state Kuwait was a defining moment of awareness for an entire generation in the Arabian Gulf. We learned that the nation always comes first, not to be deceived by slogans, and to rely on Gulf solidarity as the true support.” He continued: “On the 35th anniversary of the invasion, it is crucial to instill this awareness in the hearts of new generations.” It is noted that Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait was an attack launched by the Iraqi army on Kuwait on August 2, 1990, during the era of former President Saddam Hussein. The military operation lasted two days and ended with Iraqi forces taking complete control of Kuwaiti territory on August 4. A puppet government was then formed under Colonel Alaa Hussein, and on August 9, 1990, the Iraqi government announced the annexation of Kuwait to Iraq and the cancellation of all international embassies in Kuwait. The Iraqi invasion of Kuwait lasted for 7 months and ended with the liberation of Kuwait on February 26, 1991, after the Second Gulf War.
