As electronic invoicing lays the groundwork for comprehensive digital tax compliance, businesses are facing increasing complexity in managing filings, reconciliation, audits, and international regulations.
At the Tax Technology Summit 2025, hosted on December 6 in Dubai, Debasish Guha Roy and Paresh Bafna, both directors at COVORO YouCloud, shared insights on the evolving role of tax technology. As a Diamond Sponsor, COVORO YouCloud highlighted its FTA-compliant e-invoicing platform, ERP integrations, and real-time compliance features.
Paresh Bafna, Director, COVORO YouCloud:
How do AI and machine learning enhance tax automation solutions?
AI excels in non-deterministic processes. Simple processes moving directly from point A to B can be handled with predefined rules. However, when multiple unpredictable paths exist, AI is essential.
Tax compliance operates in such an environment, requiring interpretation and learning beyond straightforward rules. AI is crucial here.
Companies receive massive volumes of transactional documents in diverse formats. Traditional OCR systems struggle with this variability, processing countless invoice formats from numerous vendors. Agentic AI is designed for such tasks, recognizing unstructured patterns, identifying key data, and processing documents accurately.
COVORO YouCloud’s platform incorporates self-learning mechanisms with a human-in-the-loop approach, continuously improving accuracy over time.
What sets your solution apart, given that many providers offer similar services?
YouCloud has been in this field for over 14 years, working with tax authorities and enterprises across multiple nations. This experience reveals a consistent pattern in tax technology evolution post e-invoicing adoption.
Typically, within five to ten years, a comprehensive compliance ecosystem becomes essential for managing filings, reconciliation, audits, and litigation. Our unique offering is a single, unified platform addressing all these needs from one place.
Often, companies purchase individual solutions for specific problems, leading to fragmented systems that don’t communicate. This results in limited visibility, delayed insights, and incomplete data for CFOs.
COVORO YouCloud’s platform is singular, unified, and AI-enabled, with fully integrated modules that communicate seamlessly, allowing departments to access a single data source. This unified architecture is our core USP.
Can you briefly describe the other modules within your platform?
Once e-invoicing is in place, transactional sales data flows to tax authorities. A seller’s invoice becomes a buyer’s purchase, enabling authorities to auto-populate tax returns by calculating input VAT.
Automation adds complexity, as not all transactions qualify for tax credits. Companies interpret VAT differently and lack visibility into their suppliers’ and customers’ compliance. While enterprises see their data, tax authorities see all parties and identify mismatches, often resulting in compliance notices.
Our platform includes modules like automated tax filing, notice management, and reconciliation systems. Reconciliation is vital, as enterprises must validate records and generate accurate responses when notices are issued. Our tools enable both reactive and proactive reconciliation to reduce notice occurrences.
Additionally, the platform offers export-import automation, crucial in the UAE’s trade-driven economy. Transactions are evaluated against sanctions, rules of origin, free trade agreements, and other regulations, necessitating intelligent automation.
COVORO YouCloud’s export-import module manages these challenges comprehensively, ensuring compliance and efficiency in global trade.
Debasish Guha Roy, Director COVORO YouCloud
What inspired the founding of your company, and how did it begin?
It’s been a long journey. I’ve spent nearly 30 years in the UAE, beginning as a telecom professional and later running a large systems integration company.
In 2011, we founded YouCloud with a clear vision to build proprietary products rather than resell them, focusing on original product development from the outset.
Our first product was in payments, providing a strong foundation. We then expanded into telecom, blockchain, and regulatory technology.
To support this vision, we formed joint ventures, including a regulatory technology partnership with COVORO announced at the Tax Technology Summit. We also partnered with Print-to-Block for blockchain-based tax solutions, integrated with payment and tax platforms for supplier and SMB financing.
These systems are interconnected, with blockchain enhancing security. A consultant recently noted the importance of securing invoices in transit to tax authorities, which blockchain strengthens significantly.
Ultimately, I see myself as a technology entrepreneur focused on creating proprietary products and ventures, not just integrating or reselling systems—a path few companies choose.
How does your ERP integration support large enterprises with complex systems?
ERP integration, despite its perceived simplicity, is complex. Understanding every data field generated by ERP systems is a significant task.
Having executed integrations across countries, most data structures align, with about 90-95% of data fields matching out of the box. We add missing fields if necessary.
We connect ERP systems like SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft to taxation systems, fine-tuning integration for accuracy and compliance.
What challenges arise during the integration fine-tuning phase?
Integration is a shared responsibility, not solely ours. Delays can occur if ERP vendors are slow to respond or implement changes.
Such challenges occasionally arise with large vendors like SAP and Oracle, highlighting the need for enterprises to choose the right Access Service Provider (ASP) partner to manage ERP version upgrades effectively.
