The aircraft, an Airbus model, was taxiing on the runway preparing to take off toward Zurich when passengers were startled by a fiery flash followed by a loud noise and thick smoke rising behind the plane. The airline explained that the crew made an immediate decision to abort the takeoff and return the aircraft to the gate, where passengers disembarked safely and in an organized manner. There were 223 passengers and 13 crew members on board, with no injuries reported. The incident occurred weeks after a similar event involving an American Airlines plane at Las Vegas airport when flames were seen coming from one of its engines, as well as another incident with a Sun Country Boeing 737 at Los Angeles airport last July. In both cases, no injuries were reported.
