Over half of the content online is now created by artificial intelligence (AI), yet users are often skipping AI-generated content, according to Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications.
“Currently, about 52% of internet content is AI-generated, leaving 48% created by humans. We’ve noticed that search engines aren’t favoring AI content, and people are less inclined to click on it due to an overwhelming amount that doesn’t engage them,” Al Olama stated during a fireside chat at Gitex Global 2025 on Thursday.
He emphasized that governments must not remain ignorant. “We need to be flexible in policy-making to address AI’s impacts effectively at every stage.”

He highlighted the need for policymakers to regulate AI wisely without overregulating.
“As humans, we tend to overestimate technology’s abilities and sometimes underestimate its long-term impact.”
Discussing AI risks, ethics, and sovereignty, he advocated for regulation by those knowledgeable in the field.
“The UAE has taken a unique approach by appointing chief AI officers in every federal government agency and most Dubai agencies. These officers not only understand AI but also explore global advancements and engage in regulatory discussions with technology leaders. This enables proactive, informed regulation. We must avoid regulations driven by fear or sensationalism,” Al Olama explained, noting that AI won’t solve every problem despite the hype.
