The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) in the UAE has introduced the 6G Initiative, following the first successful 6G Terahertz (THz) pilot demonstration in the Middle East last month.

This achievement, revealed by e& UAE and NYU Abu Dhabi in October, set a new record with data speeds reaching 145 gigabits per second (Gbps).

The 6G pilot showcased the network’s ability to provide ultra-high-capacity, low-latency connections, paving the way for transformative technologies like holographic telepresence, extended reality (XR), terabit-class backhaul, and digital twins.

Commenting on the launch, Engineer Mohammed Al Ramsi, Deputy Director General for the Telecommunications Sector at TDRA, stated: “We are building upon a foundation of innovation and achievements, working together towards an intelligent, hyper-connected society that promotes innovation and national prosperity.”
