Algeria ranked first in the list of the top 5 oil deals in July 2025, thanks to expanded investment contracts in the hydrocarbons sector, involving global companies, and concluded under the country’s new hydrocarbons law. Norway took the fifth spot through a new deal involving the Johan Sverdrup field, one of the largest oil fields in the western continent, with massive investments to expand its production capabilities.
According to the “Energy” platform, the list of the top 5 oil deals in July 2025 was marked by diversity among the participating parties, including governments, international companies, and major European developers, indicating a return of investment momentum in the oil sector after a period of slowdown.
The list topped the largest 5 oil deals in July 2025 following the signing of 5 new development contracts in the oil and gas sector, covering reserves estimated at about 700 billion cubic meters of gas and 560 million barrels of crude oil. The deals were signed with 8 international companies across 5 exploratory blocks out of 6, with contracts extending for 30 years, including 7 years dedicated to exploration activities, with a minimum total investment exceeding $606 million.
Algeria was also central to the top 5 oil deals in July 2025 with a deal signed between Algeria’s Sonatrach and Italy’s Eni to exploit the Zemoul El Kbar field in the Berkine Basin, east of Hassi Messaoud. Iraq secured the second spot on the list thanks to an ambitious plan to develop the Hamrin oil field by signing a memorandum of understanding with the American company “HKN,” aiming to increase production to 60,000 barrels per day.
Through a new contract won by the global company “Subsea7,” strategic marine operations are involved, including the supply, operation, and installation of advanced components for oil infrastructure. New investments in the Johan Sverdrup field focus on the investment decision regarding the third phase of developing the Johan Sverdrup field, the largest oil field in Western Europe.
