Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap criticized Vijay Subramaniam, the producer of the forthcoming AI-generated movie Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal.

This film, introduced by Abundantia Entertainment and Collective Media Network’s Historyverse, is being touted as India’s inaugural “Made-in-AI” cinematic release.

Kashyap took to Instagram to express his disapproval of Subramaniam, questioning his dedication to creators.

Labeling Subramaniam as the leader of an agency representing writers, directors, and actors, Kashyap accused him of prioritizing profit over creativity. He claimed that the shift to AI demonstrates a disregard for artists.

“Congratulations @vijaysubramaniam84. Here is the man leading @lifeatcollectiveartistsnetwork, representing artists, writers, directors, now producing an AI-made film. So much for supporting creators,” Kashyap’s post read.

The filmmaker urged actors and artists to take a stand, suggesting that those with “a spine” should challenge or leave the agency. He also stated that Subramaniam has demonstrated a belief that artists can’t compete with AI.

Kashyap described the situation as a “future for spineless and cowardly so-called artists” in Hindi cinema.

Kashyap’s critique follows filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane’s reaction to the film’s announcement. Motwane shared the poster on Instagram, stating, “And so it begins… Who needs writers and directors when it’s ‘Made in AI’.”

Abundantia Entertainment unveiled the film’s official poster, describing the project as a “first-of-its-kind, Made-in-AI, Made-in-India avatar.”
