Apple plans to expand its music service by offering curated radio stations on a global network of home speakers and connected cars, as reported by the Wall Street Journal. This initiative marks the first time Apple’s six radio stations will be accessible outside its app, thanks to a partnership with the digital radio platform TuneIn.
The move into radio comes as the music streaming landscape becomes increasingly competitive, with platforms like Spotify exploring new formats such as video podcasts and interactive messages.

Apple, based in Cupertino, California, reportedly initiated discussions with TuneIn about collaboration towards the end of last year, said TuneIn’s CEO Richard Stern.
Apple’s share of the U.S. digital music subscriber market dropped from 30% in 2020 to 25% by the end of last year, while Spotify’s share grew, according to MIDiA Research.
Neither Apple nor TuneIn immediately responded to requests for comment from Reuters.
