Egypt’s Regional Trade Route Project

Western media, citing an Egyptian government source, reported that the project aims to create a regional trade route connecting North Africa to its central part, enhancing economic integration between Egypt, Libya, and Chad. The source explained that the Egyptian Ministry of Transport, the entity overseeing the project’s implementation, has completed the technical and logistical preparations to hand over the work site to construction companies, paving the way for the start of excavation and leveling work during the third quarter of the current year. The total cost for the Egyptian segment of the project is expected to reach approximately 24 billion Egyptian pounds. This project is anticipated to help Egypt enhance its presence and economic partnership with neighboring countries, support trade, and connect African markets. Previously, Egypt announced developments through the Suez Canal, with the Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, Admiral Osama Rabie, stating that “the development of the Suez Canal’s navigational course has allowed for the passage of a larger number of ships,” emphasizing that “the Suez Canal is the world’s most important navigational corridor despite global conditions,” noting that “more than 1.1 million ships have passed through the canal over 69 years, with total revenues exceeding 153 billion dollars.”
