Arab Delegations Exit Geneva Conference

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported on Wednesday evening that many Arab delegations, including Palestine and Yemen, as well as other global delegations like Iran, left the World Conference of Speakers of Parliament held in Geneva. The reason for the delegations’ withdrawal was attributed to the speech of the Israeli Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, in which he proposed the establishment of a Palestinian state, sparking a wave of anger and condemnation in the hall.

The conference, which commenced today, is held under the title “A World in Disorder: Parliamentary Cooperation and Multilateralism for Peace, Justice, and Prosperity for All,” and will continue over three days. The conference aims to enhance international parliamentary cooperation and discuss key issues such as empowering women and youth, digital transformation, and achieving sustainable development goals.

The Gaza Strip is experiencing one of the worst humanitarian crises, with its residents suffering from severe famine due to ongoing Israeli actions since October 7, 2023. From October 7, 2023, until the current month of July, the war on Gaza has resulted in the deaths of more than 59,000 Palestinians and around 143,000 injuries, according to data from the Health Ministry in the region.
