Baerbock called for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire, holding Israel responsible for delivering aid to civilians in the sector, and demanded Hamas release the hostages immediately. She emphasized that “the only way for Israelis and Palestinians to live with dignity is the two-state solution,” stressing the necessity of establishing a sovereign Palestinian state within internationally recognized borders, and that Hamas must end its rule in Gaza and disarm.
The governments of the UK, Canada, Australia, and Portugal announced on Sunday their recognition of the State of Palestine, a day before the conference, which will be held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings regarding the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution.
The announcement, supporting the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, is the result of an international conference hosted and organized by Saudi Arabia and France last July to discuss the decades-long conflict.
It is worth mentioning that the two-state solution is a political proposal aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by establishing two independent states: a Palestinian state along the borders of June 4, 1967, alongside the State of Israel, which aligns with the vision of the international community.
